A village on the edge of the cliff: Castellfollit de la Roca

We're talking about a village from a fairy tale... Castellfollit de la Roca, in north-eastern Spain, offers a magnificent view. The charm of this village is that it was built on a basalt rock. The sight of Castellfollit de la Roca, which stands out for its architectural features, is like in the Middle Ages.

Anyone who loves life on the outskirts of the most beautiful villages in Spain will like it. Because the rock formation in the village is 50 meters above sea level. If you want to find out more about this village you will find beautiful pictures, but in reality this place is much nicer than the pictures.

The villages were formed from rocky lava flows. The rock was eroded by lava in volcanic eruptions thousands of years ago. The average length of this basalt cliff is 1 km.

There are mines in the village! Castellfollit de la Roca is also home to the only active basalt mine, operated by the Ortiz family since 1929. It is used in basalt floors, fireplaces and decorative accessories.

Of course, it's not just rocks that can be seen in this medieval village. Most of the houses in the village are built of volcanic rock, giving visitors the feeling of traveling through time and space. It can be said that the narrow streets of the village create ideal angles for photography enthusiasts.
