Climate change, drought and famine

We as Tourwix Travel will discuss the topics mentioned in this article in order to inform, sensitize and raise awareness of our readers and visitors.

Climate change, drought and famine. With the rapidly growing population, uncontrolled urbanization, the increasing consumption of fossil fuels, the destruction of natural spaces and the effects of concretion, our world can expect many different life-threatening dangers in the next century.

What is famine

One of the dangers that can arise from drought, climate change, and global warming that we mentioned in our previous articles is famine. Famine; It can be defined as the lack of food for certain natural and human reasons, the shrinking agricultural land, and the inability to provide the amount of resources to meet the endless human needs.

There are many different reasons for famine to occur. But the main causes of famine are;

  • Heavy rains
  • Extreme drought
  • Seasonal colds
  • Unexpected and unprepared typhoons
  • Various bacteria and diseases in plants
  • Decrease in the quality of vegetable and fruit seedlings
  • Main reasons, such as B. Various insects that damage the seedlings can be counted.

In addition, it is the number one cause of famine that occurs with drought. The most common reason for this is irrigation problems. Drought near or in the center of an important source of irrigation causes regional famine. The above points can be counted as causes of famine.

The danger of famine, which was often observed in the past, still exists today. Although Europe and America did not experience much famine in the past, regions such as Latin America, Africa, South Africa and the Middle East are still at risk of famine today.

What is the United Nations saying?

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization, which is continuing its work within the framework of the United Nations, the number of people living under hunger and famine has gradually increased since 2010, and this increase continues even at a low level.

Another key point is that if starvation disasters due to climate change are not addressed, at least 1 billion people around the world could have difficulty accessing staple foods by the 2030s.

According to the ISF, by 2050 it is absolutely necessary to increase agricultural production, increase productivity in agricultural production and raise the quality of seeds worldwide to the optimum level. In addition, many countries face famine if agricultural production is not doubled by 2050.

Waste is one of the biggest contributors to famine.

If the quality of seeds in food production can be increased, their shelf life in packaged food is extended and a barrier against food waste is set accordingly. In order for this situation to be possible, it is considered essential to protect the substances such as production, distribution, delivery, monopoly in the seed sector one after the other with a worldwide agreement.

As a result of the development of the seed sector, food seeds, which can be grown with less water and therefore less cost, can deal a blow to the drought crisis. Today agricultural water consumption accounts for a large part of the water consumed worldwide. This can only be prevented by increasing the quality of the seeds.
